Paseo de los Pioneros
Schedule: 24 hs.
Ticket cost: Entrada libre y gratuita
The Pioneers Promenade is a recreational and leisure site, built alongside the infrastructure of the project. It serves as an excellent viewpoint for tourists to understand the geographical location of the area.
Visitors can admire the spectacular sunset landscape and learn about the characteristics of the Paraná River, the surrounding islands, the Hydroelectric Dam, the beaches, the Loreto Creek, General San Martín neighborhood, the water intake, and the local port.
The name of the promenade, “Los Pioneros,” was given in homage to the first scholars of the Paraná River, Engineers Gamberale and Mernoz, who were in charge of the Buenos Aires Ports Directorate and explored this stretch, concluding with a study on the possibility of building a hydroelectric project on the Apipé Rapids. It has been declared a natural historical heritage. We have 18 km of concessioned sandy beaches, visible from here. The central ones are considered the calmest, as during the summer season, which is the months of December, January, and February, the others experience greater demand, mainly from young people.
Across the river, you can observe the San Martín, Apipé Chica, and Apipé Grande islands, the navigation channel, which is the border between Argentina and Paraguay, and where barges carrying food products to Buenos Aires pass through.
You can also have a panoramic view of the Yacyretá Hydroelectric Dam.
Continuing along the path, you’ll see the 28 Houses neighborhood and the five built for the project’s directors, many of which are currently uninhabited and serve as guest houses.
